About the Instructor

Joan Barrington’s work as a Therapeutic Clown Practitioner, started as the founder of the Clowning Program at Toronto SickKids Hospital where she developed and introduced her own clown-persona “Bunky”. Experience has positioned her as an international mentor to others in the field. Research indicates that clowning and giving one’s self the permission to play, has an incredible impact on wellness. Her informal, unique and interactive methods of presenting have been adapted to varied participant groups including:

  • 2015 Clowns 4 Cuba – Formal training and mentoring for performers and practitioners
  • 2012-2013 Cuban Ministry of Health – Introduction to Therapeutic Clowning
  • 2012 and 2014 Havergal College, Toronto - You Are Enough – self-awareness through clown play
  • 2010 Youth at risk in New York – Tension reduction, self-exploration, validation and confidence
  • 2005-2008 Hospital for Sick Children - Light Hearts Healing Play weekend workshops
